That’s the animating idea behind Pine Tar Letter — a newsletter designed to deepen reader’s understanding of the game of baseball by celebrating its past and curating the most important stories of today.

Inspired by The Writer’s Almanac, an NPR program hosted by Garrison Keillor, each issue highlights an iconic player and their record on the day they were born, includes one roundup of MLB news, and a highlight of what happened on that day in history.

To develop the look and feel for the newsletter, I collaborated with the same art director I worked with on The Library of Pursuits towards the end of 2024. Launched in early 2025, the newsletter is still in its infancy. In addition to publishing new issues each week, I’m working to both add custom features for an audience segmented by favorite their team, and to grow the list through paid and organic marketing.
